Accessibility is a key focus in the construction of PNDS projects.
PNDS is a community led program: the community choose, plan, manage the budget and implement the project, and at the end of construction the community, including the elderly, men and women, youths and people with disabilities, are the ones who benefit.
Aldeia Fahilacor, suku Uma Naruk, sub-district Manatuto, built a clean water system, with an access ramp so the elderly in the community can easily use the water tap.
PNDS appreciates the community’s idea – this is a great example for all communities in all suku to follow, as accessibility is a fundamental principal of PNDS.
In aldeia Fahilacor, a rural aldeia, the community decided that clean water was their highest priority.
The clean water system cost US$7,288.12. The budget was used to purchase materials, such as cements, sand, stones, hoses and the water tank that will collect the clean water.
Water from the nearest spring travels at least four (4) kilometers to the aldeia, and there are 288 people from 58 families who will benefit from this program.
