Suku Soilesu is part of the Bobonaro district. The Suku is in phase II of PNDS implementation. The Community Head (Xefe Suku) and all the Neighbourhoods’ heads (Xefe Aldeia) belonging to the suku are actively involved in PNDS activities, they strongly support the program and mobilize their community to participate in it. The coordination between Xefe Suku and the Community Management Team (CMT) members, including PNDS facilitators, has been really impressive and inspiring.
The community had already identified its priorities for this year and ranked first the construction of a new road that will connect Aldeia Ai Aras and Aldeia Soilesu. This road, that will cover a distance of 3,5 km, will benefit the people of the entire Suku as it will give easier and better access to the Aldeia were all the agricultural products come from.
Even though the infrastructure funds were not transferred to the Suku’s bank account, the CMT together with the Xefe Suku and the Xefe Aldeias started mobilize the community to work on the priority project, in coordination with the sub district’s facilitators and the district’s engineers.
The community participation in the project was exemplary and praiseworthy. According to the Xefe Suku and the Head of the Community Implementation Team (EIP), there were 7 different groups of people working in the project, each group consisted of 20 people, with a total of 140 residents working in the road construction.
A lot of women, young people and even elderly people took part to the project’s implementation.
Every day, each group established an objective to be accomplished: sometimes each group had to dig up to 20 m per day, and sometimes only 10 m, depending on the volume of soil they had to remove.
Xefe Suku and all the CMT members, including Xefe Aldeias, had enthusiastically monitored the project and they themselves worked on the project.
Xefe Suku, Mr. Romaldo Leto Mau said that they will continue to encourage the community, in particular women, to participate in PNDS activities.
On October 6, 2014 the community celebrated the new road, whose construction was really extraordinary and possible only because of the commitment of the entire population, which is thankful to PNDS for bringing them a new road.
