The President of the Republic was accompanied by the Secretary of State as officials inaugurated a bridge in the Hatolia village
The Be’eali bridge, which is located in Hatolia village, Hatolia Administrative Post, Ermera Municipality, was officially inaugurated by the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak (28/05/2015). This bridge was built by the community using government funds allocated through the PNDS Program to the village.
During this inauguration ceremony the President Taur Matan Ruak praised the community for its participation in the PNDS Program because with the use of a small subsidy the community was able to build something that will benefit many people.
“You have shown your desire to develop your village, your spirit to want to develop your village, because with a small amount of money you have been able to carry out a big project like this”, said the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak.
The President said that the work carried out by the community in this village has set a fine example for all villages in Timor-Leste, because through development that is initiated from the grass roots level we will be able to better achieve national development in the future, which reflects the true concept of development in this nation.
Carlos Martins, a resident of Hatolia village, was really happy with the visit from the President Taur Matan Ruak who came to inaugurate the bridge that was constructed by the community through the PNDS Program, and he was really happy with the results of this work.
“We feel really happy, because this bridge can facilitate all of our activities, because in the past during the rainy season it was really hard for us to access transport from this location because the bridge was made out of planks, but with the funds provided by the government through the PNDS Program we were able to build this bridge”, said Carlos Martins, a resident of Hatolia-Vila Village.
The bridge measures 14 m x 6 m and is approximately 12 metres high. The funds allocated to the construction of this bridge totalled $39,000. Communities in three villages will obtain benefits from this bridge, including the villages of Leimea Sorin Balu, Leimea Kraik, and also the Letefoho Administrative Post.
Hatolia village implemented phase 1 of the PNDS Program in September 2013. The grant allocated to this village totalled $55,000, which comprised $6,250.00 of operational funds and $48,750.00 of infrastructure funds.
