PNDS provides benefits to the community in Fuat Village

IMG_3076The PNDS program being implemented in Fuat Village, Iliomar Administrative Post, Lautem Municipality, is truly providing benefits to the community in the village. This was identified when the communication team, accompanied by the Co-Chief/DGDL, Miguel Pereira de Carvalho, visited the PNDS work program at the Iliomar Post (10/02/2015).

Martins Pinto, the Fuat Village Chief said that: “Previously, in order to obtain clean water my community had to walk more than 1km, however with the implementation of the PNDS program, the problem of clean water for this community has been resolved and now they can get clean water in their own village”.

PNDS is not a project, but rather a program that builds the capacity of the communities so that they themselves can identify development problems that they are facing in their villages, and through the PNDS program the community members drive the development in their village.

The Co-Chief/DGDL, Miguel Pereira de Carvalho, during this visit said that the key to successfully developing theIMG_3033 village is for the entire community to participate, and he requested for all members of the village at every level to take part in the implementation of the PNDS program in each village, because PNDS is a Government program to determine development in the Village and Sub-Village through the financing of basic infrastructure that is jointly decided on by the communities. The Director General of Local Development also asked for the communities to take care and be attentive to the physical programs that have been implemented through PNDS, so that they can be used for a long time.

In Fuat village the community decided on 3 priority proposals for implementation, and these 3 projects were the construction of a clean water facility totaling $20,533.96, the construction of a ditch totaling $16,821.75 and a Communal Washing, Bathing and Toilet Facility (MCK) totaling $6,644.29. These three projects are being implemented by the community and will be finalized in the near future.
